HEEF Hosts Fifth Annual Career Day
On October 13-14, 2011, HEEF hosted its Fifth Annual Career Day. Over 85 students gathered in Chicago for this 24-hour immersion in the real working world of real estate. Career Day is part of the Foundation’s educational outreach programs aimed to promote real estate students and give them an opportunity to connect with working professionals and experiences.
This year’s Career Day experience included a Fireside Chat with Richard Stein, Senior Managing Director of Mesirow Financial, followed by a tour of 353 N. Clark Street, as well as a site tour of 111 W. Wacker Drive (an active construction site), followed by a discussion with Don Biernacki, President of Related Midwest, who recently acquired the distressed property. It also featured a Young Guns Panel and Networking Dinner at Edwardo’s Pizza, where students learned about career paths from some of the brightest young “stars” in the real estate field. The Young Guns Panelists included Matt Darin (Frontline Real Estate Partners), Brandon Duff (Stan Johnson Company), Emily Slovitt (Prudential Mortgage Capital Company) and Mike Reed (Supervalu). The experience ended with a Roundtable Luncheon where students had the opportunity to have intimate discussions with over 20 of the city’s top real estate professionals.

Thirteenth Annual Dinner – A Huge Success
Oh, what a night! On October 4, 2011, the Foundation hosted its 13th Annual Dinner. Almost 500 guests joined us at the Standard Club in Chicago for an evening of food, friends and fun. The night began with a cocktail hour where guests enjoyed the opportunity to socialize and connect before heading up to a delicious gourmet dinner followed by a networking dessert.
The best part? The Annual Dinner raised an estimated $130,000 to fund the Harold E. Eisenberg Foundation GI Cancer Tissue Bank at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. The Bank is a tumor tissue repository that allows Dr. Benson and his staff to perform clinical trials and cutting-edge research aimed at advancing treatment methods and saving patients’ lives.
Highlights from this year’s dinner included a surprise award, presented to Professor Roger Cannaday for all he does to promote real estate education, the announcement of our 2011 scholarship recipients, and the debut of our new video. The dinner also featured an exciting raffle and Wine Lottery. The raffle prizes included a MINI Cooper, a Chicago Sports Package, a Golf Package and a Private Tour of the ESPN Studios with Jeremy Schaap. The Wine Lottery gave guests the opportunity to purchase a great bottle of Terlato wine and with it, a chance to win one of several great prizes, including a two-night stay at any Hyatt and a $1,000 gift certificate to Lester Lampert Jewelers
The success of the Annual Dinner and, in fact, the Foundation as a whole, is due to the unwavering support of the real estate community. We are deeply grateful and inspired by this community, whose members are so generous with their time, talent and treasure. It’s amazing to see the impact a professional community can have when they come together to rally around a cause. Thank you all, especially to our corporate sponsors and dinner guests, for making this year’s dinner a resounding success.

Team Eisenberg Rocks!

Over twenty Team Eisenberg Members ran the Rock n Roll Half Marathon on August 14, 2011. In addition to having a great time, they raised over $10,000 all of which will be used to fight gastrointestinal cancer.
The night before the big race, HEEF hosted a pasta dinner for the runners so that they’d have plenty of energy. Despite the threat of rain, the cheering squad was full of energy and there to support the runners all the way to the finish line.
With their persona
